Seminar organized by Supansaz and AIPSO

Monday 5th August 2024 at 19:32

The memories of Comrade Bharat Prakash were revived

*A serious discussion on the humanitarian crisis in the war zones and the way forward

*India and Pakistan's 100 "precious" never used nuclear bombs, if used 2 billion people will die - Dr. Arun Mitra

*Need to conduct mass movement for world peace - Dr. Mitra

*Arms dealers think like drug smugglers - Ramesh Ratan

Khanna
: 05th August 2024: (M S Bhatia//The Comrade Screen)::

All India Peace and Solidarity Association (AIPSO) and Supansaaz, an organization dedicated to Punjabi and Punjabi people, organized a seminar In memory of late Comrade Bharat Prakash, an eminent peace fighter belonging to Khanna city.

The topic was 'Humanitarian crisis in the war zones and the way forward. On this occasion, the stage presiding committee included Balwinder Singh Grewal, Mahendra Jeet Walia, Principal KK Sharma. Dr Arun Mitra (National President Indian Doctors for Peace and Development), M. S. Bhatia (Convener Social Thinkers Forum), Gurnam Kanwar (Editor: Sada Jug) and Comrade Ramesh Ratan spoke as speakers.

In this seminar, remembering eminent peace fighter Comrade Bharat Prakash, MS Bhatia expressed his condolences on the threats to world peace. Dr. Arun Mitra, expressing concern over the loss of life and property and spread of hunger due to ongoing wars in the world, said that the world is unable to stop it even after seeing the killing of small children in Gaza.

Israel has adopted the same stance that Hitler once adopted, who oppressed the Jews, and now the war is not only over Gaza, but Israel  has also attacked the West Bank of Lebanon. The assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh by a missile in Iran has made the situation more serious.

The dual policy adopted by the US, in which on the one hand it talks about stopping the war to Israel and on the other hand it is supplying deadly weapons, has greatly worsened the situation. The ongoing war in Ukraine threatens the world with nuclear war.

Here NATO and America do not want to let the war end because for them it is a golden opportunity to sell their weapons. Arms dealers are not concerned about people dying of hunger and thirst.

On this, Dr. Mitra satirically said that India and Pakistan are far behind in the status of child malnutrition index according to official reports around the world, yet they are blindly spending more than each other on weapons.

In such a case, the more than 100 "precious" nuclear bombs possessed by both countries, which have not pounded till date despite 4 wars; Now, if they are ever used in war, it is certain that two billion people of the world will be killed.

He said that the voice of peace movement should be raised all over the world to improve the extremely serious situation. Comrade Ramesh Ratan said that the arms dealers have the mentality of drug profiteers who make their business on piles of dead bodies.

Comrade Gurnam Kanwar remembered Bharat ji and explained his determination and his thought for peace. In his presidential speech, Balwinder Singh Grewal said that children in India and all over the world are not dying of hunger because of lack of food grains, but it is happening because the profiteers, following the war policies of the arms dealers, have seized or horded the food under themselves.

At the end of the seminar Advocate Paramjit Singh finally thanked everyone. Teacher leader Gurpreet Singh played the role of stage manager in the seminar. On this occasion, apart from others, Comrade Kewal Singh Banwait, Comrade Avtar Chhibbar, Councilor Sukhmanjit Singh, Jagdev Singh, Paramjit Setia, Comrade Gurmeet Singh, Kamaljit Singh, Shamsher Singh Ghuman, Major Singh and many other young men and women were also present.

Manipur: CPI leader along with workers came out on the streets

 Sat 28 July 2023 15:26 from WhatsApp

Stop violence & Dismiss Manipur govt. immediately–Brar

Mohali
: 28 July 2023: (Kartika Singh//The Comrade Screen)::

While the whole country is worried about the violent incidents in Manipur, the eyes of the whole world are focused on this matter. The greatness of India and the honor of women, on which we all were proud, has been degraded before the world with the news of these incidents. November-84 lasted for three days but the series of Manipur continues from the month of May.

Along with writers, artists and trade unions, political leaders are also in the fray against the elements responsible for these violent incidents. For this protest, senior and militant leader of CPI, Bant Singh Brar has come out on the streets along with his colleagues. Continuing this protest campaign, strong protest and anger was also expressed in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office, Mohali today. Fellow princes and other leaders had also arrived with their companions. Despite the bad weather, CPI comrades raised their voice against this oppression.

Protest by Communist Party of India (CPI), Chandigarh and Mohali was an open expression of anger with grief on Manipur incidents. This protest was held in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Mohali against the atrocities on minorities, in which many trade union members, women's organizations, writers, intellectuals, students and a large number of women participated. During this Protest, companions Devi Dayal Sharma, Raj Kumar, Vinod Chugh, Brij Mohan, Gurnam Singh, Jatinderpal Singh, Karam Singh Vakil, Mahinderpal Singh, teacher leaders Ranjit Kaur, Surjit Kaur Kalra, Aman Bhogal, Manjit Kaur Meet, Sukhpal Hundal, Pritam Singh Hundal, Balkar Sidhu, Dildar, Prince Sharma, Kamaljit Singh, Baljit Singh, Gurdial Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Bhupinder Singh also addressed.

The speakers strongly condemned the violence against minorities and women in Manipur terming it as unfortunate. CPI state secretary comrade Bant Brar said that Manipur government has miserably failed to control riots and insecurity and this government has no right to continue in power. Therefore, it should be dissolved and President's rule should be imposed immediately.

He also demanded that immediate steps should be taken to remove this anti-people government to restore peace and ensure safety of minorities and women by pacifying communal harmony as usual. Making serious allegations on this whole development, CPI leaders said that this double engine government is deliberately spreading communal riots. First Gujarat suffered and now Manipur is burning. Don't know tomorrow which state's peace law will burn in this communal fire? He urged the people of the country to be aware and recognize the two forces of the people.

He said that the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab should also immediately support the flood affected Punjabis and give proper and fair compensation to the flood affected Punjabis. At the end, thanks were given to the friends who came and Karam Singh Vakil conducted the stage in his literary style.

CPI Condemns Farcical FIR against Annie Raja

 Tuesday 11th July 2023 at 04:05 PM

She was leading the NFIW’s Fact Finding Team

New Delhi: 11th July 2023: (Karthika Singh//The Comrade Screen Desk)

CPI Condemns Farcical FIR against Annie Raja and other members of NFIW’s Fact Finding Team. The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (on July 11, 2023):

The Communist Party of India strongly condemns the FIR filed against Annie Raja, General Secretary NFIW and member of National Executive of CPI, Nisha Sidhu, National Secretary, NFIW and leader of CPI in Rajasthan and Deeksha Dwivedi, independent lawyer, who were part of the NFIW led fact-finding team to Manipur. The FIR filed at Imphal on 8th July 2023 is clearly vindictive and malicious without any element of truth in it. This invocation of criminal proceedings against reputed women leaders is a clear indication of the abuse of power by the local component of the ‘double engine government’. The CPI views the criminalization of the democratic process of fact-finding as an assault on constitutional ethos. The double-engine government of BJP seems keen on escaping all manners of transparency and accountability to the citizenry of this country.

The CPI also condemns various other malicious FIRs against tribal students’ organizations and their functionaries, rights activists and intellectuals like Prof. Kham Khan Suan Hausing of the University of Hyderabad. The ruling dispensation remains true to its fascist drive by attempting to crush dissent, criticality, dialogue, and even the very right to speech.

For almost three months now, the state of Manipur is undergoing severe crisis and instability with an unprecedented loss of life and property. While several factors are at play in the current situation that are exacerbating the violence, the most glaring and unacceptable one is the absolute State apathy and inaction. The silence of the Prime Minister and incompetence of the incumbent chief minister stand antithetical to all Constitutional values. The action as well as the inaction of the governments in the current crisis displays the RSS-BJP combine’s pro-corporate agenda. The experiences of Gujarat are before us of how these right-wing forces in power have made use of the fissures in society to push through with their divisive anti-people policies.

The CPI and the democratic forces will stand up before any kind of intimidation and fight legally and politically to uphold truth and justice.

Amarjeet kaur//Observe May Day with more Vigour

28th April 2023 at 8:36 PM

Save Democracy,  Save people, Save Nation

New Delhi: 30th April 2023: (The Comrade Screen Desk)::

May day reminds us the huge sacrifice of the workers and their unions to assert that the workers be treated as human beings and not as animals. Rather one could claim that the discourse of human rights was initiated by the labour movement in the human history. Their cry for fixed working  hours, 8 hours for work, 8 hours for rest, and 8 hours for recreation and rejuvenation with the family echoed in various parts of the world in 19th century. In India too the demand of fixed hours of work began from 1866, when the unions were yet to be born sector wise, as till then the collectives for common cause was through community bases. It was in 1886 that the workers in Chicago began their protest strike on 1st May, that followed the bomb explosion by the conspirators to find an excuse to crush the movement. The eight leaders arrested, four of them were given death sentence, two died in jail and two were given life imprisonment.

It was in 1889 that in an international meeting of workers associations where Karl Marx talked of the cry of working class, the incidents of May protest in Chicago and suggested to observe May day for paying tributes to the martyrs of that struggle and to continue the struggle for fixed working  hours. It was from 1890 that the day began to be observed with a slogan "Workers of the World Unite"

The struggle continued and the first convention of ILO was on eight hours working day in its foundation conference in 1919.

In India an AITUC union in the leadership of M Singarvelu was the first to observe May day in 1923 in present day Tamilnadu.

The working class the world over is facing a severe situation of reversal of various labour rights won over after hard and prolonged battle including the right to fixed working hours and right to strike. The attack on the labour rights and unions is the tool for the pro corporate governments to weaken and stifle the collective bargaining to continue their support to the monopoly Capitalists for super profits overriding the rights of working masses.

May day 2023 would be observed with more vigour by the working class this year for several pressing reasons. Taking into cognizance of the political developments which are moving at very fast pace on every front in the year before General Elections in 2024, it is utmost important to asses the situation

In  India also we are confronted with a situation when the hard won labour rights after a struggle of 150 years are under threat from the anti labour policies and the codification of labour laws being pursued by PM Narendra Modi led RSS- BJP government. This is in order to weaken and cripple the unions as they are opposed to the economic policies which are pro corporate of foreign and Indian brand and is a  reversal of self reliant economic model which India adopted post independence. These policies have been resulting into increased gaps in the living standards of people, bringing in more indebtedness and miseries in their lives.

The economy is further in deterioration. With the ever-rising prices of essential commodities, the cereals, pulses, wheat flour, rice, cooking oil, cooking gas (at about Rs 1200 a cylinder), retail milk prices rose more than 15 percent in last one year, the cost of education and health care rising, whereas the income/wage increase is not taking place, it is becoming very difficult for subsistence of the poor working masses with every passing day.

The last full budget of Modi led BJP Govt. before general elections to Lok Sabha reflects the continued trend of the government leading the pro corporate policies at the cost of the interests of workers, farmers and the poor vulnerable sections in general. The corporates getting more concessions whereas the budget allocations on education, health, civic amenities, SC/ST sub-plan reduced, MGNREGA allocation reduced by 30 percent, relative reduction in the allocation to various social welfare schemes is very much evident. The budget was jugglery of decorated words.

The budget speech of the Finance Minister was laced with falsehood. The estimations presented as achievements were far from truth at the ground level. The seven key priorities as listed in the budget such as the inclusive growth, reaching the last mile, youth power etc. remained empty without any substance. None of the real issues concerning working people were addressed such as the reverse back to Old Pension scheme, Social security to all, Pension to all, regularisation of scheme workers, raise in the minimum wages for the unorganized/informal and agricultural labour, filling of sanctioned posts in the centre and states etc. This budget left behind the interests of the nation, its 94% informal economy work force who contribute 60% of the GDP.

Budget did not address long term employment and creation of quality jobs. 10 million new job seekers enter the job market every year. Unemployment is at its peak of 34%.  Budget talks about demand-based skilling. Skilling comes with formal education. Leaving behind the reality of formal education in India, skilling makes no sense. New age courses for Industry 4.0 aims at a very small section of technically educated youth leaving behind a large section of the deserving. The budget mentioned for spending on higher education, in actual it is a blue print already to bring foreign universities. BJP government has only been allocating less than 3% of GDP on education so far. Reduced public spending on health has made poverty accentuate in India. Spending on agriculture is reduced to the extent of paying doles to farmers which is the election gimmick. The relief to women and senior citizens by way of enhancing the limit of deposit does not translate into any big benefit. Widening Gender wage disparity and dwindling women employment rate was not addressed.

The Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises(MSMEs) were not adequately addressed. What is given by way of enhancing guarantee is too small for the huge sector, that is the engine of growth and employment generator.

No attempt to increase tax income by taxing the rich and corporates. The borrowings to make up deficit is already visible. India’s debt burden is already heavy and further burden will increase the debt servicing load.

Budget not only failed the common man, it was passed without discussion in the Parliament. It has happened for the first time in the history. Even the pre budget consultations were converted into mockery, and the Central Trade Unions had boycotted it.

With the Hindenburg report out, the downfall of Adani empire, the public sector undertakings which had invested huge amount in Adani companies are in tight position now. About Rs.30000 crores of LIC and Rs 42000 crores of SBI and similarly shipping company-Paradeep, GAIL, IOC, to name a few PSUs were made to invest in Adani companies, and it is understood that the PMO played the role of facilitator. It is worldwide known that the Prime Minister took personal interest and promoted Adani Companies for their business expansion in several countries. In mines in Australia Indian government stood as Guarantee for Adani Company and money arrangement was facilitated through PSU Bank, SBI. Home Minister gave cover for Adani's Mauritius Company. For Port in Israel to Adani group, Indian government stood for sovereign guarantee. A new story from Sri Lanka also appeared in case of Electricity generation contracts.

This filthy reality explains well why the inequalities in the lives of people are rising to disgusting level.

Oxfam India’s report on inequality in India released on 16th January 2023 finds that just 5 per cent of Indians own more than 60 per cent of the country’s wealth, while the bottom 50 per cent of the population possess only 3 percent of the wealth. It is pertinent to mention here that this very 50 percent population possessed 13 percent in the previous year 2021.The upper 1 percent population which owned 22 percent of the total wealth in 2021 increased its share to 40.3 percent in 2022. The report said that if India's billionaires are taxed once at 2 per cent on their entire wealth, it would support the requirement of Rs 40,423 crore for the nutrition of malnourished in the country for the next three years. It would be important to mention here that in an affidavit to the Supreme Court last year by the counsel of the government, admitted that about 65 percent deaths of children below five years is due to malnutrition. The hunger index of India has further gone bad and the country stands at 107 among 122 nations. The daily wager earners are in extreme distress. The crime buereu report this year revealed that about 25 percent of suicides reported last year were of the daily wage labour.

The report, “Survival of the Richest: The India story”, also says that between 2012 and 2021, 40 percent of the wealth created in India has gone to just 1 per cent of the population and only a mere 3 per cent of the wealth has gone to the bottom 50 per cent, adding that the total number of billionaires in India increased from 102 in 2020 to 166 billionaires in 2022.

The combined wealth of India’s 100 richest has touched $660 billion (Rs 54.12 lakh crore) — an amount that could fund the entire Union Budget for more than 18 months, the report stated.

Before the pandemic, in 2019, the Central Government reduced the corporate tax slabs from 30 per cent to 22 per cent, with newly incorporated companies paying a lower percentage (15 per cent). This new taxation policy resulted in a total loss of INR 1.84 lakh crore. The government adopted a policy of hiking the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and excise duties on diesel and petrol while simultaneously cutting down on exemptions. The indirect nature of both the GST and fuel taxes invariably burdens the most marginalized. The gap between rural and urban inflation has widened.

The government instead of taxing the rich people and corporations resort to taxing the rest of society more. This is regressive in nature because poor people pay a larger share of their incomes.“The bottom 50 per cent of the population at an All-India level pays six times more on indirect taxation as a percentage of income compared to top 10 percent”, the report had  said.

The ongoing war situation in Europe is adding to the growing crises of economy. On one side, the armament lobby is pushing USA-NATO proxy war against Russia with Ukraine as Pawn in their hands, the imperialist lobby simultaneously is looking forward to bring the war conflicts to Asia. At the cost of working masses, the war mongering lobbies are in their comfort zones. This is adding to the miseries of working people in war conflict countries, Russia and Ukraine but is also the cause for overall adverse impact on the economy of various countries.

The aggressive postures of the imperialists continue against Cuba and similarly denial of rights to the Palestinian people to their homeland continues with the policies of US backed Israeli government. AITUC have always firmly stood with the people of Cuba and Palestine and all those who have dared not to give up their sovereign rights and have taken principled positions against imperialist forces.

The worldwide situation of recession and economic crises is being responded by the pro capitalist regimes in various countries and the attack on the social security, the pension systems, the job and wage protection are increased. The rights to protest and strike are under attack. This is being responded by the trade unions and other sections of the society by massive protests. We are witnessing in the recent time the ongoing struggles in France, Great Britain, Greece, Spain, USA, Australia to name a few countries. The governments are resorting to repression and changes in the laws to contain unions.

We are already under attack in our country with regressive labour law changes and codification, which we have been protesting and resisting through united opposition by the platform of Trade unions. The central govt has made rules centrally, and also through the state governments ruled by its own party or where they are ruling in coalition. In union territories, they are imposing central rules. Many of the governments are yet to frame the rules in states. The state trade union chapters have to develop bigger resistance not to let the rules framed or where these are framed, not to be allowed to notify and implement.

The PM Office is directly intervening, bye passing the labour ministry and state governments and directing to make changes to suit the demands of the international Corporates with whom the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi is directly negotiating and making promises for changes in law as per their conditions for investments. This fact has come to forth in the recent amendments brought into the Factory Act through legislative amendments bill in the state of Karnataka. The unions organized very successful strike against it on 23rd march, the day of martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.  Similar bill was moved in the state of Tamilnadu which led to united protest by the trade unions and some political parties allies in the state government. The bill is put in abeyance after the protest.

Having failed on all counts the ruling RSS BJP dispensation depends on the politics of hatred, communal divide, more loud on "Hindu Rashtra" slogan. The statement of RSS Chief Mr. Mohan Bhagwat that Hindus have woken up after a thousand year is indication for the communal fanatics to be more emboldened in their activities of violence.

The communally charged violent groups are getting boost. Horrifying details from Haryana in this regards that police is allowing such groups to carry forward the activities of the vigilante groups in the name of cow safety/cow protection force. It is an example of state apparatus allowing private persons to take law in their own hands.

The recent instances of communal violence on Ramnavami day are indicators enough for the future events to unfold if the government continues to shelter these groups under the garb of religious activities.

The regressive approach in the field of education under the guise of making needed changes in the syllabus, it continues to make its aggressive efforts that the next generations to be kept blinded of realities. Then these forces would find it more easy to spread myths and communal violence on emotive issues.

The attack on public sector undertaking continues openly and tacitly, which would damage the pillars of economy to carry forward developments process and more over it would be regressive in regard to better jobs for the Youth.

The misuse of govt. institutions has been fast paced and the instances of the use of ED, CBI, UAPA etc are more common to shut the opposition voices. Mr. Rahul Gandhi case is typical to explain the designs of this govt, how the decision were taken in quick succession to nullify his Lok Sabha seat after pronouncement of judgement by the lower court in Gujrat.

The govt. institutions are further being tamed to tow the line of the ruling party despite being in contravention to Indian constitution. The speed of making mockery of the parliamentary democracy was visible, when during this budget session it was the treasury benches which were not allowing the Parliament to function.

The system of information in closed envelopes to the courts was another practice rampantly, used by the govt to gag media as well as the citizens specially those with whom the govt is uncomfortable. The judgement which was delivered by the bench of Chief Justice along with another judge on 5th April 2023 has tried to put an end to this procedure terming it against natural justice.

The attack on constitution from the ruling regime is well known, but now we find how the Vice President of India Shri Dhankar and the law minister Mr. Rijiju have been attempting to subvert constitution with their statements time and again.

The trade unionism in India evolved in democratic assertion of Indian masses against the oppression and suppression of the local exploiters and the colonial masters. Trade unions, the collectives of workers to fight for their rights, for present and future is the basic tenets of a democracy. AITUC played its role in establishing right to unionise and collective bargaining, right to democracy, right to freedom of expression and right to dissent and these rights find place in Indian constitution. These rights are under attack in various garbs.

It is the paramount duty of the working class to protect these rights for themselves and for the whole society.

Our commitment to carry forward the decisions of 30th January 2023 National Convention of Workers, its message to fight the anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people and anti-national policies of the RSS-BJP government, to carry the message to all nook and corner of the country, to expose the real face of the government for the people to decide to give marching orders to this ruthless tyrant regime.

Long Live May Day

CPI Condemns I-T Raids on BBC Offices

 14th February 2023 at 09:56 PM

Such a step is likely to bring down the image of the country

New Delhi: 14th February 2023: (The Comrade Screen Bureau)::

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (on February 14, 2023) condemning the raids on Mumbai and Delhi offices of BBC:

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India condemns the raids conducted by the income tax department at the Delhi and Mumbai offices of BBC. The Modi government has already become notorious for attacking everyone who criticizes and exposes its communal-fascist policies.

It may be recalled here that BBC has recently telecast the documentary, ‘The Modi Question’. This has annoyed the Modi government which did not allow its telecast in universities and other places.

Now the Modi government has used the government machinery to intimidate a foreign telecast company. Such a step is likely to bring down the image of the country which has already suffered as far as the freedom of the media is concerned.

Refer SC Verdict on Reservation for EWS to Full Bench: CPI

8th November 2022 at 4:13 PM

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (on November 8, 2022):

New Delhi: 8th November 2022: (M S Bhatia//The Comrade Screen)::

The Supreme Court judgment upholding 10 per cent reservation for EWS category by a five-member bench with three upholding and two expressing dissent has raised several questions regarding the very policy of reservations. Pertinent questions about the judgment’s impact on reservation for SC/ST/OBC, in the absence of caste census, non-availability of data and criteria to determine the economically weaker sections of forward castes, etc. have come to the fore.

The judgment has created apprehensions with several political parties and social movements demanding that the judgment be referred to a larger constitution bench of the Supreme Court for clarification and constitutional merit of the judgment. CPI demands that a full bench of Supreme Court review the present judgment.

CPI is relentlessly fighting for a casteless and classless society. The CPI stands for equality, social justice and annihilation of caste.

The legislative intent behind reservation was not poverty alleviation but affirmative action for historically discriminated and deprived sections of our society.

At a time when privatization is being aggressively pursued by the present government, our fight for reservation in private sector must continue with even greater strength.

War is not the solution for any geo-political conflict

CPI Expresses Concern Over Military Conflicts Around Ukraine

New Delhi24th February 2022: (M S Bhatia//The Comrade Screen)::

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued today (on February 24, 2022) the following statement:

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expresses its deep concern and anguish over the military conflicts in and around Ukraine.

CPI reiterates its uncompromising position that war is not the solution for any geo-political conflict in any part of the world. They could be solved only through peaceful means and meaningful dialogue. The CPI is of the opinion that the US move to expand NATO to the East and any part of the world would be an eternal threat to world peace.

CPI urges the government of India to do everything possible to ensure the safety of all Indian citizens living in Ukraine. The authorities of Indian missions in the region need to be asked to take up this issue with utmost urgency.

Unite to Protect India’s Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity

20th June 2020 at 3:04 PM
Comrade D. Raja participated in the All-Party meeting
New Delhi: 20th June 2020: (The Comrade Screen Bureau)::
Communist Party of India General Secretary D. Raja participated in the All-Party meeting convened by the Prime Minister on June 192020 after being repeatedly demanded by CPI and other opposition parties.
Party General Secretary made the following points:
1.*  CPI appreciates the government for convening the All-Party Meeting even though it is late.
* Our Party salutes the martyred Soldiers and Officers who sacrificed their precious lives on June 15th.
* Every Indian is proud of our Defence Forces for their valour and dedication in defending the security and borders of our country. They are Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The whole country stands behind them.
2. Security and foreign policy positions of our country are evolved on the basis of national consensus. The government should take political parties, Parliament and people into confidence on all these matters.
3. India China Stand-off
§  Coming to the current stand-off between India and China, our Party is of the view that no compromise on sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country should be made.
§  Status quo at the Line of Actual Control should be respected and restored as it was till April 2020.
§  India and China are Asian countries which claimed to stand for Asian Century.
§  Right now the relations between our country and the neighbouring countries, Pakistan and Nepal, remain hostile. We have problems with Sri Lanka also.
§  In such a situation, the US tries to drag India into a kind of military alliance to establish its own influence in our region. The Government must be cautious about this.
§  India having good neighbourhood relations becomes crucial for national stability and well-being. It means India should evolve a proper South Asian Policy.
§  The immediate task is to intensify negotiations at the highest level to resolve the boundary disputes between India and China. It will ensure peace and stability. Both the countries should respect “the importance of respecting each other’s sensitivities, concerns and aspirations” as outlined in the Joint Statement issued after the first Summit between Indian Prime Minister and Chinese Leader.
§  The political parties in India should stand together in defence of our sovereignty and territorial integrity. The whole country should stand as one.
§  CPI stands for such unity.

Reactions: Punjab CPI Condemn Pro-Khalistani Statements

9th June 2020 at 5:12 PM
Statements were given by Akal Takhat and the SGPC chiefs
Chandigarh: 9th June 2020: (Punjab Screen Bureau)::
Com. Bant Singh Brar, Secretary Punjab State Council of CPI, reacting on the statements given by Giani Harpreet Singh Working Jathedar of Akal Takhat, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, and S. Gobind Singh Longowal, the President of Sharomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the elected body of the Sikhs to run the vast number of Gurdwaras, condemned the Pro-Khalistani tone and message given by them and strongly criticised the silence kept by Akali Dal leaders, including S. Parkash Singh Badal, former many times Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, the President of Sharomani Akali Dal and Harsimarat Kaur Badal, the Cabinet Minister in Modi Govt.
Com. Brar said that the extremist elements, who were lying in sleep, used the occasion to raise their demand through the above said religious leaders, as their earlier attempts to incite the Sikhs in name of Referendum 2020 had been rejected by Punjabi people. Now again they used the anniversary date of Indian Army attack on Sikh Shrine in 1984 and the above mentioned both leaders who are appointed by ruling Akali Dal of Sh. Badal with their commanding majority in Sikh institutions, played with fire by supporting extremist demands.
Com. Brar said the attack on Golden Temple was very unfortunate incident which could have been averted if the Central Govt at that time (led by Smt. Indira Gandhi) had acted wisely keeping in view the strong resentment it could cause in Sikh masses. He said that neither Sharomani Akali Dal and SGPC and nor the extremist elements who had captured the  Gurdwara and killed thousands of innocent people can escape from the responsibility of  tragic happenings.
Com. Brar said that the statements of Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and SAD President S. Longowal have said that there is no objection on raising slogans of Khalistan, that every Sikh wants Khalistan, that if central Govt gives Khalistan we will welcome it, etc. He said that Punjabis had won peace in Punjab after thousands of sacrifices including communists and that they will not let the nefarious designs extremists of succeed.
Com. Brar strongly condemned the silence of Modi Govt which is always ready to enforce ‘antinational’ and ‘Rashtra-dhroh’ charges on struggling masses and leaders.
Com. Brar appealed to Punjabis not to fall prey to these inciting statements and maintain peace and harmony in the state.

CPI seminar to pay homage to Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha

Criticized Communal and obscurantist policies of BJP
Ludhiana: 16th November 2019: (The Comrade Screen Bureau)::

It is time to strengthen the struggle against the communal and obscurantist forces and to save our constitution. In a seminar organised by the Communist Party of India District Ludhiana unit to pay homage to Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, Com. Charan Singh Sarabha, an educationist and former General Secretary of the Government School Teachers Union Punjab, said that Kartar Singh Sarabha laid down his life at a very tender age. He fought against the British  imperialism  relentlessly and did not bow down to their atrocities or diktats. He was part of the Ghadar movement with aim to throw the British imperial power and to build an India which is secular, democratic and a society based on justice and equality. They preached freedom of all religious beliefs, end to discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, religion, gender and financial status. It is unfortunate that their dreams have not been fulfilled even after seventy two years of independence. The spirit of constitution is being flouted. Right to freedom of expression is being curbed in a very subtle way. Those disagreeing are being labeled as anti national or are being eliminated. Silence by the Prime Minister on mob lynching amounts to tacit support to such heinous crime. Rights of the states are being curbed. Abrogation of article 370 in J & K and converting it into Union territory is a clear example. They are out to create Jingoism to garner votes.
D P Maur – district secretary said that economic situation is very grave. India's rank is 102 out of 117 countries in the hunger indexThe GDP which was expected to be at 9% has now fallen to 4.2%. After demonetization and the way GST was implemented there is rampant joblessness which has reduced the purchasing power of the people. The crisis is obvious from the very fact that the government has taken 1.76 lakh crores from the reserves of the RBI. The corporate sector has been given a concession of Rs.1.46 lakh crores in the income tax whereas the ordinary people have to pay high indirect taxes. Dr Arun Mitra assistant secretary said that there is design to push society into backward situation by spreading completely unscientific ideas and are propagating obscurantism like the use of ‘Gau Mutra’. The very talk of putting head of elephant on human body in the ancient India is totally unscientific and a sinister design to keep the society backward.  Such forces need to be fought back relentlessly he said. Others who addressed include Com Ramesh Rattan, CPI National Council member Guzar Goria, Chamkaur singh, Maninder Singh Bhatia Gurnam Singh Sidhu, Avtar Chibber, Ranjt Singh, Kewal Singh Banwait. The seminar was presided over by Comrades Gurnam Gill and Gurnam Sidhu. Young student leader of AISF Kartika recited a poem on present situation. Seminar demanded that ideals of Shaheed Kartar Sngh Sarabha and Ghadar movement should be part of syllabus all over the country. Earlier the party leaders garlanded the statue of Shaeed Kartar Singh Sarabha.

163. WEST BENGAL Comrades. My dear Comrades. Why such a stage got us; when we have the history of 34 years ruling in West Bengal? Why we had lost the ruling of West Bengal? Do you know the position of our party before TMC came in power? Once we had 172 MLAs for CPM alone. Was it with the support of Congress? Why WB peoples are reluctant to vote us? They don't feels our party must come in power. Why? Is it due to TMC? Com SM said; if LDF is return; TATA will start Car factory. It means? We had nothing learned from the history. Can we say the entire votes got by TMC is only on violence and by booth capturing? What was our old mathematics? The difference between LDF and TMC were very little and we can overcome with the support of Congress. Is it right? What happened? Congress men not voted for CPM; while our comrades voted for Congress. (2) Bourgeois will not allow a Communist party to be in power because we have a RED FLAG. Though WB comrades don't know its value; bourgeois knew about it. Marx said there should be "proletarian dictatorship" because bourgeois will not allow to destroy their existence and what they enjoying now. ..... Due you know the history of CPI and SA Dange? Please see my blog No. 140. (Posted today) Can we say the National Council Members of old CPI were very clever peoples? Only 31 Comrades including Com. Jyoti Basu came out from old National Council out of 101 members. There were 70 numbers was with Dange. But CPI could not over come their poor stage. Even from the history of SA Dange and CPI; our (some) comrades are not ready to understand what will be the result when we deciding to share with Congress. They are trying to make CPM only a petty bourgeois party like RSP; etc.................I think; you knew; the Communist movement of India; under the leadership of SA Dange; since 1950s; postponed socialism and decided to promote Indian capitalism. During 1957; EMS Government of Kerala had done so many things and also started "Mavoor Rayons" by Birla. Due to water pollution of Mavoor Rayons; river water (Chaliyar) became polluted and nobody could use the water. Since then when we got chances to rule in Kerala; all efforts done to promote capitalism. Dange's step to co-operate with Congress was a part of that decision. In WB; the base to co-operate with Congress is based on this economic stand. (Please see my blogs; I will post) Since 2002; I am trying to change the "programme" and in 2005; I had published a book containing basic theories of Marxism; with a criticism on programme paras 6.2 and 6.5. Due to the publishing of the book; My membership denied by Party. We can see; since 1950s, Indian party is in stagnation. In WB, the quality of Jyoti Basu helped CPM to get in power. This helped due to the ruin of Congress. At the same time In Bihar; Lalu Prasad yadav; in UP - Mulayam; Andhra - Naidu; Tamilnadu - DMK; etc. In WB; there is no working class base; The peoples of WB those who voted CPM is now with TMC. Due to Singoor--Nandigram; our claim as a working class party lost; when Budhadeb declared that there is no other way; other than capitalism (2008).

Victory over fascism:9th May, 2015 is the 70th anniversary

Fri, May 8, 2015 at 3:11 AM
A big function in Aiwane Ghalib Hall Delhi
Dear friend,
As you know, 9th May, 2015 is the 70th anniversary of victory over fascism. In the era of aggressive march of international finance capital and multinational corporations to usurp the resources and markets all over the world, the emergence of neo-nazism, fascim and intolerance in various forms are being witnessed in different parts of the world. In India, we are witnessing the rise of communal forces of all kinds specially the Sangh Parivar forces of Hindutva majoritarianism being pushed aggressively terrorizing the minorities. With anti worker, anti peasant agenda as the priority of the Modi Govt., the attempts to crush the dissent, to belittle democratic institutions and increased intolerance to a different view points are very much being pushed as a part of the process.

In this background, our party is observing this 70th anniversary of victory over fascism. In Delhi, CPI and CPI(M) have organized a joint meeting on 9th May at 4:00 p.m. in Aiwane Ghalib Hall, Opp. Mata Sundari Gurduwara at Mata Sundari Road, Near Bal Bhawan.

Com. S. Sudhakar Reddy, General Secretary, CPI and Com. Sita Ram Yechuri, General Secretary, CPI(M) will address the meeting.

Please join us in the meeting.

Yours friendly,

(Amarjeet Kaur)
Secretary-CPI

Remember Please:9 May marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the part of the Second World War known in the Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War where the Soviet Union fought against Nazi Germany. It was first inaugurated in the sixteen republics of the Soviet Union, following the signing of the surrender document late in the evening on 8 May 1945 (after midnight, thus on 9 May, by Moscow Time). The Soviet government announced the victory early on 9 May after the signing ceremony in Berlin. Though the official inauguration happened in 1945 (which means it has been celebrated since 1946), the holiday became a non-labour day only in 1965 and only in some of the countries.

In the former Soviet Union this festival was celebrated to commemorate the Red Army's victory over the Nazi forces.

The Left parties held Rally at the Ldh Railway Station

Sat, Jan 25, 2014 at 3:08 PM
Then marched to the Clock Tower Chowk against Govt.
Ludhiana: 25 Jan 2014: (Rector Kathuria//Comrade Screen):
The Communist Party of India (CPI) and  CPI(M) held a protest march against the rise in prices of essential commodities including the LPG Petrol, deteriorating law and order situation and other anti people policies of the state government, consolidation of land and sand mafia, criminal activities of drug mafia and increase in the petty crime. The parties held rally at the railway station and then marched to the Clock Tower Chowk. Speaking on the occasion various speakers said that even the police personnel are not safe as proved by the killing of an ASI trying to save the honour of his daughter by a member of the Akali Dal. The incident of violence at the mini secretariat is also another evidence. The law and order situation has deteriorated to the lowest ebb ever in the recent period. All sections of the people particularly the women have never felt them so unsafe as today. The unwarranted behaviour with the struggling teachers is highly condemnable the speakers said. There is political interference in the functioning of the police. Land Mafia and Sand Mafia as well as the drug peddlers are active without any fear. The speakers also lambasted the government for imposing taxes to the tune of Rs. 9000 crores on the people of Punjab in form of property tax, increase in bus fare, registration of vehicle rates increase, enhancement of rate of Intqal and TS 1, electricity tariff etc. The tax on petrol is also maximum in Punjab. Not only that the employees are not being paid salaries on time. Even the pension is not being disbursed. Over and above increase in the prices of LPG have completely imbalanced the ordinary family. Large number of people have not got the subsidies. They are even finding it difficult to get Aadhar cards. People have to wait in long queues for this and then run around in the banks. Policies of both state and central governments have robbed the people. AITUC again exposed the anti peoples policies of UPA-2

Com Gurudas Das Gupta–MP was the main speaker
Ludhiana: 22 November 2013: (Rector Kathuria//Punjab Screen): The workers in our country have to meet dual challenge of saving the social fabric of the society by fighting against the communal & divisive forces as well as to save the country from economic onslaught by the multinational corporations, this was said by Com Gurudas Das Gupta–MP and General Secretary All Indian Trade Union Congress (AITUC) while addressing a convention here at Punjabi Bhawan today. The UPA-II Govt. is increasingly working in the interest of big corporate business houses of India and the international cartels undermining the national interest. Latest decisions of the Govt. are enough indicators of the rightist shift in the policies detrimental to Indian growth and progress based on justice and equality. These are against the basic spirit of the Indian constitution which speaks of justice and equality as its mainstay.  The Govt. is more inclined to respond to the demands of the international finance capital and the MNCs while hitting the common man hard, even denying them basic amenities like food, shelter, health and education. Therefore there is an urgent need for the working people to unite in strength to lead the struggle against these policies so as to meet the goal of sustainable development in the interest of all the people of the country, he said. On that score, the job insecurity and the job losses on the one hand and increased trends of contractorization and outsourcing,  contractualisation and casualisation of labour is norm of the day. There is attack on unionization itself and pressure on existing unions to suppress and intimidate them to contain their activities. Bringing in FDI  in retail trade will be big blow to more than 4 crore small traders, shopkeepers, marginal and poor farmers, other small producers of goods in home based and small scale industries etc. The government has been responsible for unprecedented rise in corruption at higher places with loss to national revenue and denial of rightful share of common people in the wealth being produced in the country. He further deplored that accumulation of wealth in the hands of few, whereas the vast majority is suffering under acute poverty and unemployment. The latest reports have indicated that 100 top rich families own assets to the tune of 16 lakh crores of rupees whereas 70% Indians are forced to live on meager spending of Rs.16.60 paise per day. With the policies being pursued will further hasten these gaps.

He said, the govt. continues to act in ruthless manner against the common people and the response to people’s agitations by the Prime minister and some of his ministers are arrogant to the core. Corruption at the higher places has become rampant which is obvious  from the scandal like 2-G Spectrum. The Gas price hike in connivance with the Ambanis will cost a loss of nearly 2.20 lakh crores to the exchequer, he highlighted.

Taking advantage of this situation the rabidly communal RSS and BJP have floated Modi as their Prime ministerial candidate. This is a very serious danger before the nation which the workers have to fight back tooth and nail.

In this background the Trade Unions have decided to intensify their joint agitations and march to Parliament on 12th December 2013 on the charter of demands which includes seeking check on price rise of essential commodities, end to labour law violations, for social security and pension to all workers, abolition of any ceiling on Provident Fund, gratuity and bonus, abolition of contract labour, steady regularization of them and equal pay for equal work, no disinvestment of public sector/ govt. sector enterprises and resources, national minimum wage to be raised to not less that Rs. 10,000, universal entitlement of maternity benefit to working women etc.

Addressing the gathering Com Bant Singh Brar - President  and Com Nirmal Dhaliwal - General Secretary of Punjab unit of AITUC said that the state govt. of Punjab is not following a different course as regards the economic policies in general are concerned. Rather it has been taking anti labour and anti farmer measures. They informed that several more conventions will be held in the state on these issues, where Com Gurudas Dass Gupta MP, General Secretary AITUC will address.

Today’s convention was attended by representatives of various organisations of workers and employees from Construction, Hosiery, Roadways, PRTC, Banks, Power sector, FCI Palledar, University, PSSF, Govt. Class 4 employees, Corporation, BSNL, ASHA workers  and unorganized sector.

Com Kartar Singh Bowani – Vice President Punjab Kisan Sabha also addressed the gathering.

Com O P Mehta General Secretary AITUC Ludhiana and Com D P Maur, General Secretary Joint Council of Trade Unions Ludhiana assured that they will participate in large number in the march to parliament at Delhi on 12th December 2013.
